All I'll say is that the neon lettering/figures affixed to a painted sign, and their shadows upon the sign, of the raised will produce that visual doubling and tripling effect, so it's not an unfinished 'overpainting' at all.

Neon advertising art, like painted ads on old buildings, is a particular kind of Americana I hope we always have with us.

Great article! Well researched and presented, thank you for pointing out so much I didnt "see". You mentioned the black lines next to the stars and around the lettering-- to me this represents the neon lighting tubes, skewed by the angle of the position of the artist.

Admirable detective work.

The all of it here reminds me of the transmigration /Bobby Zimmerman the Hell's Angel story he told to Mikal Gilmore circa 2012. And that like everyone else, Mr. Dylan probably searches around for old lost friends, writes and paints wraiths.
