The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923 film)

.. with Lon Chaney.

Directed by Wallace Worsley. The supporting cast includes Patsy Ruth Miller, Norman Kerry, Nigel de Brulier, and Brandon Hurst.

The screenplay was written by Perley Poore Sheehan and Edward T. Lowe Jr. —based on Victor Hugo's 1831 novel.

All the existing prints (copied from 16mm sources) are missing at least 15 minutes of footage that was in the original 1923 35mm release print.

Now the moon is almost hidden
The stars are beginning to hide
The fortune-telling lady
Has even taken all her things inside
All except for Cain and Abel
And the hunchback of Notre Dame
Everybody is making love
Or else expecting rain
And the Good Samaritan, he’s dressing
He’s getting ready for the show
He’s going to the carnival tonight
On Desolation Row

The Unknown, with Lon Chaney, 1927

I recently put Rough and Rowdy Ways together with this film and quite liked how they went together — Some parts especially.. (The album plays straight through from the start up until the end of Key West (Philosopher Pirate).

Unrelated to this, I recently came across this old painting of mine — It was based on a photograph that

had posted somewhere.

Here are two photographs of the painting. The original photograph by Patti Smith had a photograph of her daughter

within it I think. Either way, I liked how this was a photograph of a painting of a photograph of a photograph.

The Bob Dylan — Point Blank exhibition is still on display at Halcyon Gallery, London. Until 6th July. I recommend the Point Blank (Quick Studies) book if you can get hold of a copy —

I noticed on the Halcyon Gallery Point Blank page that they used this photograph of Bob Dylan — It’s by Howard Alk. From 1981. It’s also in the Trouble No More, Bootleg Series booklet.

I know that there are a lot of good photographs of Bob by Howard Alk — quite a few in the Trouble No More, Deluxe Edition booklet. He worked with Bob on the film Renaldo & Clara. Either way, I had seen this photograph of Bob in the window there pop up here and there over the years — This following photograph I haven’t seen as much though (I maybe did see this many years ago, but maybe a low resolution version).

I really like this photograph.

Best wishes,

nm.
